So I have heard that velvet sarees are the new trend this bridal season. This velvet saree is a bit different thought. It is not made of velvet entirely. Nor is it like the velvet sari that came out last year that only had the velvet border and was made of net. This one is with a twist. The saree pallu is velvet whereas the rest of the saree is a different material either gorgette or net.

Bollywood celebrities like Sridevi, Anushka sharma, Sridevi recently wore a beautiful light blue with black velvet saree to an event and she looked amazing. Pssst.. she always does! Anushka sharma also wore a purple pallu velvet saree to an event which she combined with a long sleeved purple velvet embroidered blouse. I love how the velvet sari gives a very regal and royal look, yet its not overpowering when combined with the net that makes it look delicately beautiful. I think a velvet saree is perfect for that evening reception since they have that traditional yet contemporary modern look to them. In 2008, the embroidery sarees and the fish-tail lehengas were the wedding season must-haves. The embroidery could be delicate or with heavy golden or silver zardozi work that would just take your breath away with it's intricacy and creativity.

If the start of 2010 is any indicator of what trends are to come this year, velvet border sarees are gaining popularity. A decade ago gorgette and lace sarees with a velvet blouse were extreme popular. Looks like velvet is all set to make a royal comeback this year. An almost plain gorgette saree with a heavily sequined velvet border embedded with ravishing sequins adds to the stylish look.
